Configure SharePoint on-premises for harmon.ie access

This article applies to harmon.ie for SharePoint (Classic) edition.
Read Configure SharePoint Online for harmon.ie access if you’re working with harmon.ie 365 (Classic) edition, or with New harmon.ie.

harmon.ie can access SharePoint on-premises sites using basic authentication, forms authentication, NTLM authentication and Kerberos authentication. For custom authentication methods, contact support@harmon.ie.

There are three configuration requirements for accessing a SharePoint on-premises server from Outlook:

1. Web Service access

harmon.ie uses the Windows SharePoint Services Web Services to connect to a SharePoint site. You can verify they are accessible by visiting http://<SharePoint Server>/_vti_bin/sites.asmx.

2. Browsing subsites

The SharePoint administrator needs to grant Browse Directories permission for users to view subsites:

  1. Open the Permission Levels page, from Site Settings > Site permissions > Permission Levels.
  2. Click the permission level that you want to edit.
  3. Check Permissions > Site Permissions > Browse Directories.
  4. Click Submit.

3. Enabling client integration

Client integration is disabled by default when you use forms-based authentication, because client integration does not support forms-based authentication natively. To enable client integration:

  1. Open the Permission Levels page, as explained above.
  2. Click the permission level that you want to edit.
  3. Check Permissions > Site Permissions > Use Client Integration Features.
  4. Click Submit.
