Save email headers in SharePoint and Teams columns
Email header mapping is used to Map email headers (From, To, CC, Subject, Date, etc.) to SharePoint document properties, when uploading emails to SharePoint or Teams.
Email header mapping should also be defined to enable searching by email columns.
What do you want to do?
- harmon.ie (version 9.5 or later) suggests automatic email header mapping when users save emails to M365. For more information, read automatic email header mapping.
- To configure email header mapping using the SharePoint Web UI, please read Manual configuration of mapping email headers to SharePoint properties.
Automatic email header mapping
This feature applies to harmon.ie 9.5 or later, and does not require any administrator configuration
- When users upload an email message to a Teams location, harmon.ie suggests creating an Email view in that location.
- If user approves, harmon.ie creates an Email view and email columns, and saves the email headers in the corresponding email columns. The following metadata is saved:
- To
- From
- CC
- Subject
- Date
- Conversation Topic (original email subject, can be used to create a conversation view.)
- Conversation Index (unique conversation ID)
- HasAttachments (does email contain attachments)
- Mail Preview Data (a harmon.ie specific field that enables previewing email messages)
- This feature can be turned off or expanded to SharePoint locations in the harmon.ie options, or using provisioning. To centrally provision if and where harmon.ie will prompt the users to create an Email view, set the AutoEmailHeaderMappingBehavior provisioning key. [Download reg key sample]
- harmon.ie will not create an Email view in document libraries where email header mapping was previously configured.
- If the document library is not configured with email header mapping, but the site or site collection is, an Email view is not created and the user is prompted to consult with an administrator.
- Note that the Manual configuration of mapping email headers to SharePoint properties allows defining more email columns and other advanced features.
Limitation: harmon.ie ignores the SharePoint site language, and saves email columns in the language set for the harmon.ie sidebar.
