Advanced managed metadata property editing
harmon.ie has a built-in property editor for editing managed metadata properties.
In some scenarios, it is advisable to use Microsoft’s managed metadata property editor instead:
- When you have very large term sets (5000+ terms). In this case Microsoft’s property editor will load faster than harmon.ie’s.
- If you want to allow your users to create new terms when editing properties.
How to configure harmon.ie to open Microsoft’s managed metadata property editor?
- Provision the UseManagedMetadataWebEditor registry key.
- Set the default value of the key to True, or to a semicolon separated list of termset IDs in which you want to open Microsoft’s property editor.
How to use Microsoft’s managed metadata property editor?
- Open the property editor, then click the ellipsis next to the managed metadata property you want to edit.
- To create a new term:
- Click the term under which you want to create the new term, or select the root element.
- Click Add New Item.
- Type the name of the term and click Select.
- To select an existing term, do one of the following:
- Search for a term in the box. If synonyms are defined for a term, you can search for the synonym. Note that when you select a synonym, the base term is assigned with the property.
- Click the up and down arrows to view the next/previous page of terms.
- When you locate the term, click it and then click Select.
Tip: Hover over a term to view its description, if such is defined.
